Lost in Translation

I did some coaching sessions today and there was one live call that really cracked me up. It was my agent Thea who was talking to one of her customers.

Thea: So Sir, have you used your card or cheque book recently?

Customer: Uh ok.

Thea: So you used it?

Customer: Ah… Sorry… I uh… (laughs) don’t speak English very good.

Thea: Oh I see… (presses mute) Sigh, language barrier… (presses talk) so your card, you know what your card is?

Customer: (Enthusiastically) Oh yes!

Thea: Alright! Have you used it?

Customer: Okay.

Thea: You’ve used it, yeah?

Customer: I’m sorry?

Thea: Did you use it to buy anything?

Customer:

Thea: Did you… use your card… to buy anything?

Customer: Uh… no, no, no…

Thea: Okay! Now, have you used your cheque book?

Customer: Huh?

Thea: Your cheque book, Sir.

Customer: Sorry… I don’t understand.

Thea: Have you used your cheque book, Sir?

Customer:

Thea: Use… cheque book?

Customer:

Thea: Use… CHEQUE book…

Customer:

Thea: Use… cheque book…CHEQUE BOOK…

Customer:

Thea: Cheque book…

Customer:

Thea: Cheques… write cheques?

Customer: Uh… no…

Thea: Okay!

Hihihi! She took it really well. It’s funny stuff like this that keeps us sane and drives us insane. :)

That certainly is, a lot better than talking to angry irrational callers. :)

BPO-Asia: True, true, true… But I guess I just found it really funny because we deal with irrational customers most of the time. So having to listen to this one seemed extra funny. :D
