According to the Philippine Labor Code, companies are required to give a salary increase each year — no matter what. So most line managers in my company gave extra effort to accomplish one thing — THE YEAR-END PERFORMANCE APPRAISAL REVIEW. Unlike my agents who just continued doing their usual tasks of taking calls, I on the other hand needed to make a review that can be compared to a 4000-word yearbook write-up for all 9 of them. Eeeek! The monthly deliverables and having a relatively young tenure in the company did not help me in accomplishing this task easily. But in the end, having discussed it face-to-face with my agents makes me feel really good that I took the time to really think about what they all did in the recent year. I’m happy to say that all of them were able to meet if not exceed expectations that qualifies them for an appraisal.
Oh yeah. And I got mine too. Hihihi! Just today. My overall rating was “exceeds expectations.” TADAH!!!
*sigh*
You see, as I’ve mentioned in a previous entry. I’ve been in the call center industry longer than expected (I’m going 4 years by May this year), but every time I would tell myself that I’m tired of what I’m doing, the work just sucks me back in to realize that I really love what I’m doing.
Motivation is probably one of the hardest things to have in this industry, especially in the Philippines. Imagine not being able to sleep right everyday. Imagine not having a social life since you have shifts on the weekends. Imagine doing the same call flow over and over again. It can feel routinary. EXTREMELY routinary, no matter what other people may say. I myself got burned out sooner than I think. But it is things like the recognition your boss gives you that makes you get back on track. The feeling was very overwhelming to know that your boss who’s always at your back telling you to finish tasks no matter how tired you are, actually sees the good work you’ve done and the effort you exerted in accomplishing your assigned tasks.
Well, you may not even get that very often. So basically motivation should come still come from within you. This is the best job in the world (I mean that in every sense).
As for me, I guess, 70% of the time I am self-motivated.
For now at least. Let’s wait until the mid-year review. Teehee!
