The Biggest Call Center in the Philippines

leave a response

I just learned that Teleperformance Philippines had opened a new site last month which is actually the Philippines’ biggest call center. The new site is called New EDSA IT Center 2. Sources say that the center is a two-level building occupying about 16,000 square meters with 2,500 fully equipped workstations.

This is probably the first time that I’ll be a little specific about my work experience so here it goes…

TELEPERFORMANCE PHILIPPINES WAS MY VERY FIRST CALL CENTER!!!

teleperformance.JPG

Yup, yup, yup! I’m proud to say that I was in their first international account that they acquired back in 2003. I was still an undergraduate and, like some people, entered the call center industry out of curiosity and boredom of waiting to graduate. I was in an outbound account for Veranet Solutions, a reseller of telephone services. I tried google-ing Veranet if it is still operational but upon logging in their website but I got a “Directory Listing Not Found.”

Oh well.

A new site means new job opportunities. So if you need a job and have considered applying in a call center you might want to try Teleperformance Philippines. Unfortunately, their website does not allow you to apply online unless you’re from Canada, Singapore or the US, but you can just walk in like I did back then in one of their offices. Here’s their details:

14th Floor Octagon Building
San Miguel Avenue
Pasig City, MM
Philippines
Tel: +63 2.632.9000
Fax: +63.2.632.9999

Biggest call center??? yes but obviously interms of space (i dont know if that is a fact considering DELL in MOA and Convergyz sites. I worked there before got promoted after a month w/c i truly appreciate, BUT it has a reputation of promoting very less qualified people although sure not including me coz I am a manager now of one of the bigest call centers in the phil AND i started as an agent again after I left TP (teleperformance) coz nobody recognized my experience as a team leader after I left TP.
One thing that i dont truly apreciate w/ TP is promoting people w/o proper internal job promotion like picking people based on the manager’s taste alone. Nakakaawa yung ibang agents na top performer but just because hindi sila sipsip sa managers their performance can barely appreciated. And one thing, when I was there, I fought for the agents payroll system w/c is hourly based. You know what the HR manager said to me infront of Matt Barlow (for those people who know him)? that is what the agents signed!!! I said whaatt??? I presented one agent contract (w/her signature) showing the other way around. That unqualified manager said,”we can change it though”. I (including Matt) were surpised as i looked at him. We walked outside and the rest was history. Guys there are a lot of call centers out there and you can earn 25k base salary palang for agents like DELL, HSBC,CHASE,GENPACT, GEMONEY etc.. dont waste your time.

John Doe: Apparently it is the biggest Philippine call center in terms of size. I’ll be lying if I said I wasn’t shocked that TP has expanded to this level.

Believe me, I understand the frustration you have experienced in TP. I only stayed there for 2 months. It’s true that there’s a lot of other call centers offering as much as 25K. I work for one of them. But I guess I wouldn’t be where I am right now without the experience I had in TP 4 years ago. I learned to be patient, resourceful, argumentative and open to feedback. :-)

Im sorry for the rage guys. I was just overwhelmed w/ the bad experience I had w/ the company before or should I say our agents before when I look back and think of TP. Those irregularities on their policies and laws that they have been ignoring realy getting in to my nerves. Good luck na lang siguro mga current employees ng TP. All I can say is be an illuminatus :(

Hmmm…I’m not sure though if Teleperformance is the biggest in the Philippines. I’ve heard differently (but of course, we all know that most of the big players would say that they are the largest). Good site you have here! Keep it going!

I would have to agree that Teleperformance is not the biggest call center company in the Philippines, but they do have the biggest call center site according to the press release. I’ve heard it’s Teletech. But don’t quote me on that, I’m really not sure. Though some people I know who work there have told me that it is.

im a trainee and so far, i’m satisfied with what tp is offering me. sana ang lang it would keep it’s promise to compensate me well..

The pretender : January 25th, 2008 at 10:27 am

Communication Skills Specialist. No such thing at TP, and not much necessity for those com-skills-specialists, simply because what they teach does not apply to actual situations. Let them try taking a call instead of just walking around, barging in on calls, and lecturing the flustered agent on how to extablish RAPPORT. Rapport alone will not retain customers, specially those that the acct itself has made irate at the very beginning.

And this is a warning to TP’s system of handling out sanctions. Read the Labor Code and do things by the book, or management will get burned by its own burning poker.

Touche!

Yeah, I agree. Those com skills personnel are a joke. I mean, you can’t teach old dogs new tricks, right? These agents we have, they weren’t born to english the way americans speak it or write it. I mean, even these com skills people, I don’t think anyone of them has lived in the States for the amount of time it would need for them to acquire the natural ability to speak and understand english. So, the only real people qualified to go around hanging those com skill badges would first be people who had lived in the States and lived among Americans, too. If it were up to me, I would abolish the position because it’s just an escape for whoever holds the position, and worse, a waste of company money.

Anyway, nice little blog site you have here. Keep ‘em comin’!
